The Winer Family Foundation (WFF) is pleased to announce two new staff members: Lindsay Broyhill as its new Director of Strategic Programs and Administration, and Danielle Close as its Foundation Assistant. The foundation was created in 2011 by Board Chairs Elizabeth and Brad Winer to build capacity and align systems to ensure all families with children aged prenatal to five are healthy, educated, and empowered in the Carolinas.
“After working independently for almost a decade, I am thrilled to begin this second phase of work with Lindsay and Danielle,” said Winer. “The foundation is poised to reach new heights in our collective capacity to break down silos and build better and more equitable systems for children and families.”
Broyhill will provide both strategic counsel and project management for the growing foundation. She joins the foundation from the Aspen Institute, headquartered in Washington, DC, where she led communications strategy and executed fundraising and grantmaking efforts for the Ascend policy program. Previously, she supervised policy communications strategy for public education, public health, and early childhood education and development agencies and organizations at Widmeyer Communications. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Cornell University, and was born and raised in Greensboro, NC.
“After working at a national hub for child and family prosperity, it is so exciting to see that some of the strongest work across the country is being done in my home state of NC at the Winer Family Foundation,” said Broyhill. “I am delighted to join this small-yet-mighty team, and I look forward to collaborating with colleagues across North and South Carolina, at a time when this work is sorely needed.”
Close will manage scheduling, meeting preparation, and overall organization for the foundation. Danielle also works as a consultant managing the communications strategy for ANSWER Scholarship, a Charlotte nonprofit that provides scholarship and mentorship to mothers of school age children working towards an undergraduate degree. Danielle graduated in 2019 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts in Education in Human Development and Family Studies where she interned as a research assistant at the Brain and Early Experience Lab.
“I am looking forward to being at the forefront of work on ACEs and toxic stress and to work alongside such a dynamic and passionate team that is focused on leveraging real change for families in North Carolina,” said Close.
